A PROPOSAL FOR MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING
INITIAL CONCEPT

THIS PROPOSAL TAKES USE OF MODULAR BUILDING AS AN ECONOMICAL WAY TO GROW THE SUPPLY OF MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING IN URBAN AREAS. THE DESIGN COULD BE 5 RESIDENCES AS SHOWN OR 50 RESIDENCES THROUGH THE MULTIPLICATION OF A BUILDING BLOCK.

EACH RESIDENTIAL UNIT IS 1800 SF WITH 3 STACKING MODULES. THE MAIN LIVING & ENTRY SPACE, KITCHEN, BATHROOM, STAIRS & ENTRY ON ARE THE LOWER LEVEL WHILE THE 2 UPPER FLOOR PLANS HAVE AN ENSUITE WITH BEDROOM & BATHROOM.

GREEN SCREENS ACT AS AIR AND SOUND FILTRATION FOR BUILDING RESIDENTS. PLANT LIFE AT MULTIPLE LEVELS TOUCHES THE HUMAN NEED FOR LIVING ORGANISMS REGARDLESS OF ELEVATION ABOVE GROUND LEVEL.

EACH STACKED UNIT FACES INTO A CENTER COURT FOR CIRCULATION WITH STAIRS & ELEVATORS TO A COMMON ROOF. THE LINEAR ATRIUM PROVIDES LIGHT AND AIR WHILE THE ROOF GARDEN PROVIDES OUTDOOR LIVING FOR READING, EATING, RESIDENT INTERACTION AND VIEWS OF ADJACENT AREAS.   AT THE STREET LEVEL, THERE IS A PUBLIC PARKLET WITH A SOLAR CANOPY SUPPLYING ONSITE RENEWABALE ENERGY TO THE BIKE SHARE PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO RESIDENTS AND NEIGHBORS. 

THE ROOF GARDEN PROVIDES OUTDOOR LIVING SPACES. THE BUILDING IS SUPPLIED WITH AN ONSITE RENEWABLE ENERGY SOLAR CANOPY AND RAIN WATER CAPTURE FOR USE IN LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION AND SMART APPLIANCES. 

THE CONCEPT HAS AN OPTION BELOW GRADE PARKING LEVEL WITH ON-SITE ELECTRICAL CHARGING AND CAR SHARE OPTIONS FOR A TENANT CO-OP. AT THE GROUND FLOOR LEVEL, A CAR LIFT SAVES THE SPACE THAT WOULD BE OTHERWISE NEEDED FOR A RAMP TO BASEMENT LEVEL PARKING.

THE PLANS ARE ORGANIZED AROUND A CENTRAL COURTYARD PROVING EACH UNIT WITH NATURAL LIGHT, AIR & CIRCULATION.
